10:30 to 11:15 Use of the X chromosome in solving family history mysteries

In March 2016, Barbara volunteered her time to assist “Lisa Jensen”, a woman in her 30’s, learn who her parents are and where she is from. Lisa was abducted when she was less than six months old. When arrested, her kidnapper refused to provide any information as to who Lisa was or where she was from.

In previous presentations on the “Lisa Project”, Barbara has focused on the methodology used to identify Lisa’s parents, namely autosomal DNA segment triangulation. In this presentation, she will discuss the use of the X chromosome in genetic genealogy and in particular, the role it played in identifying Lisa’s immediate family. In addition, Barbara will share some of the insights she learned from working on the Lisa Project.
